Your nervous system can be thought of like software for the rest of your bodily systems. When it comes to musculoskeletal health, this means your central nervous system is generating and deploying signals to your muscles to dictate movement strategies. We have a lot of muscles in our body, which means we have a lot of options for how to move. For example, did you know that when you squat, the muscles you use could be different from someone else? This information can be very useful for diagnosing movement-related pain problems. And often, after surgery, your nervous system can be suppressed and not behave correctly

What Is Neuromuscular Re-Education

Neuromuscular re-education techniques are used to help the body regain proper control of its “software”. In the presence of pain or injury, the body will adopt compensation strategies that may be suboptimal for overall movement health. At Anthrokinetics Physio Lab, we take meticulous care into diagnosing these tricky problems so we can deploy state-of-the-art solutions like Surface EMG biofeedback to help with muscle activation, sensor-based movement re-training to assist with learning new motion strategies, and force-vector overlay drills to learn how to effectively use the ground to enhance performance.

Benefits of Neuromuscular Re-Education

Better use of your central nervous system’s “software” so you can move your best, recruit the right muscles, and push into the ground the best way to reduce pain, risk of injury, and improve overall movement performance

First time I tried physical therapy was with Rick. But little did I know, I got a lot more. His knowledge of human anatomy and how the body moves is unlike any doctor I have been to. My shoulder and neck were locked up from a pinched nerve for 2 years and he was actually able to get me some movement, also the numbness is my shoulder/arm/hand completely went away. He definitely listens to his patients and even answered all of my manic emails as we went through the process calming my nerves.

I have worked with Rick over the past 6 years after three surgeries. For my 1st hip surgery, he was working in an office at that time and saw me for 1-2 visits a week. My 2nd hip surgery turned out to be quite different as there were complications. My peroneal nerve was affected and the outcome was dropfoot. After the 2nd surgery and with a 3rd surgery (to hopefully fix the dropfoot), Rick was with me every step of the way. At this time he switched to a mobile PT function, which was unbelievably helpful for me at the time. There were many instances under his watchful eye where my sometimes not so careful hiking/workout practices on my own were leading to other injuries in my leg/ankle. Sometimes he noticed issues before I had the chance to fill him in. In these instances there were always helpful tips and exercises to employ to safeguard other areas of my leg/ankle where I may be overcompensating. I did not notice a difference in care in the office or mobile as he had an array of PT/ rehab methods to utilize to get you to your next level of function. He was also very helpful in any communications with the surgeons or other orthopedics/neurologists to explain my progress when an update was needed or when I needed an advocate. I highly recommend Rick for any Physical Training and Injury Rehab you may have.
